1. Getting to Know Reason 4

Congratulations. You’ve got yourself some top-notch music production software, and it’s not hard to learn. You’ve got a book in your hand that will give you a substantial head start and really save you some time in the learning process. To that end, Chapters 2 through 9 will focus on a particular bit of Reason and will go pretty deep into each area.

The purpose of this first chapter is much like the purpose of the practice mode on a video game, where you can get used to controlling the vehicle without anyone shooting at you. I’d like to help you get a feel for the basic functions in Reason that you’ll be using for the rest of the book and also point out a couple of important settings that you should really be aware of in order to get the most out of Reason 4 (and have the best experience possible with this book).
