Understanding Syncing

Apple “i” devices are great ways to enjoy your iTunes content away from your computer. To move iTunes content onto one of these devices, you sync the device with your computer. During the sync process, iTunes copies the content you select onto the device; you configure the content that is moved onto the device through tabs, with a tab for each type of content the device you are syncing supports. You can choose to sync all the various types of content onto a device or you can choose a subset of your content to move onto a device. On devices that support apps, email, and so on, you can also copy the related content and information onto the device.

One of the great things about iTunes is that it manages all the complexity of syncing for you. All you do is make selections to indicate the content and other information you want to move onto a device; iTunes then copies that information onto the device each time you connect it to your computer.
