Understanding Offline Mode

Spotify is a streaming music service, which means that it feeds music over the Internet, in real time, to your computer or portable device. But what do you do if you don’t have an Internet connection and still want to listen to music?

Good news—if you’re a Premium or Ultimate subscriber, Spotify offers a special Offline mode, which works when you can’t connect or don’t want to be connected to the Internet (perhaps to save your device’s battery charge, as discussed in Lesson 23, “Playing Spotify on Your iPhone”). You decide in advance which playlists you want to listen to while you’re offline, and then those tracks are downloaded to your computer in advance. The next time your Internet connection is disconnected, Offline mode lets you play those playlists from within Spotify.
