Lesson 7. Importing Your Local Music Fil... > Importing Your Music Library

Importing Your Music Library

As noted, Spotify can automatically import all music files found in your computer’s Music, iTunes, and Downloads folders. You can also configure Spotify to manually import tunes stored anywhere on your PC. Follow these steps:

1. Select Edit > Preferences.

2. When the Preferences page appears, scroll down to the Local Files section, shown in Figure 7.1.

3. Checkmark the location(s) containing music you want to import.

4. To add another location, click the Add Source button. When the Browse for Folder dialog box appears, select the desired folder and click the OK button.

Tip: Selecting Folders

If you add a source location for local music files, Spotify imports from that specified folder and its subfolders (if any). So if you have music tucked away into all sorts of locations on your hard drive, rather than just in the My Music folder, you can consolidate all those files with Spotify; just import the folder one level up from all the rest (typically My Documents).
