Introducing Amazon Cloud Drive and the Amazon Cloud Player

Okay, so what’s this Amazon Cloud Drive thing? In essence, its cloud-based online storage of all the tracks you purchase from the Amazon MP3 Store, as well as selected tracks you’ve previously purchased or ripped to your computer. If nothing else, Cloud Drive is a nice backup of your digital library; you can always re-download tracks stored online.

Even better, you can play the tracks stored in your Cloud Drive on any computer or portable device (including your smart phone) connected to the Internet, using the Amazon Cloud Player application. This makes Cloud Drive a streaming digital music service, which is a great way to access your music from any location, on any device.

It’s a pretty neat service, comparable to Apple’s iTunes Match or the Google Music service. Given that basic access to Cloud Drive is free, there’s no reason not to take advantage of it—as an online backup service, if nothing else.
