Recording your own or others’ music isn’t as easy as pressing the “record” button. There’s a lot of technology involved and a lot of equipment to deal with. In fact, one of the biggest challenges most musicians face when starting their journey into the music production arena is understanding how they can get the right signal to the right place.

This might sound simple, but consider the possibilities. When you’re recording a typical rock band, you may have four musicians in as many different rooms, some tracks may be recorded while others are played back, and signals coming from your computer may need to feed an external sound effect module, musician headphones, and studio monitors in a completely independent manner. Not that simple, is it?
