2.7. How Do I Turn On Genius?

To turn on Genius, you must have an iTunes Store account. In iTunes, choose Store > Turn On Genius. Follow the onscreen instructions: you’ll have to sign into the iTunes Store, agree to some legalese, then iTunes will examine your library and send information to Apple. After a few minutes, Apple will send back information, which will be stored in certain files in your iTunes folder.

When Genius has finished—this can take a long time if you have a large library—you’ll see a Genius section in the iTunes sidebar (Figure 2-4).
