9.3. Estimating Square Roots
• To determine the square root of a number that is not a perfect square:
Determine what two perfect squares the number is between.
Estimate the square root of the number to one decimal point accuracy (0.1).
Divide your estimate into the number (and evaluate to the nearest thousandth).
Find the average of the estimate and the quotient.
Check how good the estimate is by squaring the result.
