42 06 Introducing the rat brain robot In the preceding chapter I explained what neurons and synapses do. Basically the chemical composition in synapses changes when some- thing is experienced. This change is a memory of what happened, and allows the brain to interpret any stimuli it is presented with in its environment. Neurons and synapses do not do much more than this. In this chapter I introduce a robot that is guided by 300,000 living rat neurons. In terms of the continuity of the book we will now under- stand how these living brain cells guide the robot.
