Improved Access

AutoCAD has traditionally been a command-line–driven application. Even after its integration into the Windows environment (which began with Release 13), most of the prompts required keyboard input. In AutoCAD 2000, several enhancements have been added or expanded to lessen the need for keyboard usage. Some of these features include the new Properties dialog box, improved selection filters, and right-click shortcut menus. And for the commands that still logically require a command-line interface, the presentation of prompts and options has been standardized.

Properties Dialog Box

The way you obtain and edit an object’s properties has been streamlined in AutoCAD 2000. The Properties dialog box, shown in Figure 1.11, combines the functionality found in the older DDCHPROP and DDMODIFY commands and adds several other object-specific editing commands. The Properties dialog box enables you to set virtually all properties of any AutoCAD object from a single dialog box. You can learn more about the Object Properties tool in Chapter 11, “Advanced Geometry Editing.”
