Chapter 3. Customizing the Tools > Migrating and Transferring Customization

3.7. Migrating and Transferring Customization

Upgrading to a new release of AutoCAD has always been a time-consuming problem with all the customizations and settings that need to be updated. Since AutoCAD 2005, AutoCAD has offered the Migrate Custom Settings utility, which allows you to easily migrate a majority of your custom settings to a new release.

The utility migrates only settings, profiles, and customizations located in specific support files, and supports limited migration for menu customization contained in the CUI files that come with AutoCAD, such as acad.cui in AutoCAD and acadlt.cui in AutoCAD LT. To be able to migrate all customizations between two CUI files, you use the Transfer tab in the CUI Editor. The Transfer tab allows you to migrate custom toolbars, menus, ribbon panels, and other user interface elements between CUI files.
