Clash detection rules are useful in that they give you parameters to run against your clash batches. You can use the rules to ignore certain types of geometry or certain items contained within the same file. Rules can also be created and modified as needed to give you flexibility on your projects. See Figure 8.4.

Enabling rules when running a clash can help reduce or filter the number of clashes that you might have on a given run. This brings you closer to the desired results you need for your project.
If you have ever used or created a rule in email programs like Microsoft Outlook, then you should be able to navigate the Rules feature in Clash Detective fairly easily since the concepts are similar.
