You Must Ask

Don’t expect schools to advertise their bargains for nonresidents. You have to do your own research. Request the reciprocal deal at the same time you apply to an out-of-state school.

Not all public schools in a state participate in these compacts. Often the most sought-after state universities don’t. In the Western Undergraduate Exchange, for instance, UCLA, University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Washington don’t belong to the compact. Schools that do include Colorado State University, Boise State University, University of Nevada, University of New Mexico, and the University of Montana.
