The Goals of Healthcare IT

Healthcare IT is more than providing a functioning computer for a doctor or nurse to use in a patient room or other area of the hospital. Your role as a healthcare IT professional goes far beyond that. You must understand the needs of HIT users and know how to support those needs. It is rare to find someone who can speak both techie and medical languages. You are responsible for bridging the communication gap between the IT and healthcare worlds when HIT is concerned. You champion the cause of HIT to the healthcare providers and administration. You become the advocate for the HIT user who needs a functional computer in a patient room, has the software she needs, and can access the information she needs to do her job successfully.
