A peripheral device is any device that can be attached to a system but is not typically part of the system. Most systems support the use of peripheral devices. Many of today’s devices plug in to USB ports, but some plug in to dedicated ports.
Most cameras today are digital, and they take digital pictures stored on flash memory. Some cameras have additional memory cards that store the pictures, and you can plug in the memory card to a reader on your system to manipulate the photos. Many cameras store the pictures on internal memory and don’t use removable memory cards. Instead, you connect a cable between the camera and computer to access the photos. Cameras commonly use a USB cable with a standard USB plug to connect to the computer and a mini or micro plug to connect to the camera. Many smartphones can also take pictures and use a similar USB cable.
