Bone Marrow and Peripheral Stem Cell Transplantation

Bone marrow transplantation involves the destruction of the client’s bone marrow (this is accomplished by high-dose chemotherapy administration and whole body irradiation). The client then receives a stem cell or bone marrow transplant infusion. Sources of stem cells include bone marrow, peripheral circulating blood, and umbilical cord.
