Repairing and Replacing Components

Taking apart laptops and printers is the easy part. Reassembly is another story. It is recommended that you draw a basic diagram of the device and as you remove screws stick them through the paper where they go so that you can be certain they go back in exactly the same place. As an added benefit, they will not roll around and get lost. You can also go to the manufacturer’s website to find the schematics for the device you’re working on.

Antistatic wrist straps are great for laptops when you are protecting the equipment from your static electricity. Do not use antistatic wrist straps when working on laser printers. There is high voltage inside that you do not want any part of. Plus rollers might grab the strap, and that would be a bad thing for both you and the printer.
