Chapter 1: PC Hardware > 1.11 Identify connector types and associated cables

1.11 Identify connector types and associated cables

A wide variety of connector types and cables are used to hook together the parts and pieces of a PC system. Many have already been covered, and in this section, those that have been covered are briefly reviewed and others are discussed for the first time. The topics addressed in objective 1.11 include:

  • Display connector types
  • Display cable types
  • Device connectors and various connector pin-outs
  • Device cable types

Display connector types

Connecting the monitor to the PC can be accomplished with many different connector types. In this section, for those types that have been covered earlier, a reference to the section discussing them will be provided.

DVI-D

DVI connectors can come in several forms. You may remember that DVI can sometimes do analog and digital at the same time. DVI-D (D stands for digital) connectors supply digital signals only. These can also come in a single- or dual-link format. A dual-link format allows provision for a second data link.
