Configuring Basic Settings

To configure settings on an ASA 5505, follow these steps:

1. Configure basic management settings (that is, hostname, domain name, and enable password).

2. Enable the master passphrase.

3. Configure the Inside and Outside switch virtual interfaces (SVIs).

4. Assign Layer 2 ports to VLANs.

5. Enable Telnet, SSH, and HTTPS access.

6. Configure time services.

7. Configure a default route.

Note

Assume that the ASA startup configuration file has been erased and the device has been reloaded.

Enter privileged EXEC and then global configuration mode:

Note

The first time global configuration mode is accessed, a message prompting you to enable the Smart Call Home feature appears. This feature offers proactive diagnostics and real-time alerts on select Cisco devices.
