Chapter 3. Cryptography

The Cryptography domain examines ways to prevent the disclosure of critical information and to ensure integrity. The word cryptography is based on Greek words that loosely translate into “hidden writing.” Cryptography is based on old-world science that strived to find ways to provide secrecy. Today it is used for privacy, integrity, nonrepudiation, and authentication.

If you are not actively involved in this field, the concepts may truly appear to be hidden—but there is no need to worry. With a little reading and some study, anyone can master these concepts. Like other CISSP domains, this one is also a mile wide and an inch deep! The following list gives you some key areas to focus on:
