Chapter 13: Documentation and Finalizing the Design Solution

Chapter 13

Documentation and Finalizing the Design Solution

THE FOLLOWING CWDP EXAM TOPICS ARE COVERED IN THIS CHAPTER:

  • Implement and understand the role of documentation in network planning and design.
  • Describe processes and best practices related to documenting collected survey data and generating a deliverable report.

One of the most important deliverables to your customer or upper management (if you are designing a WLAN for your own company) is the design documentation. In this chapter, we will focus on the different types of documentation deliverables that need to be produced for any WLAN design effort.

In Chapter 9, “Site Survey RF Design,” we discussed the RF survey process and generating data on which to base your final design. This chapter addresses how to take that information and provide a documentation set that includes the design decisions for AP placement. As you’ll see, not all projects are created equal; some can be very large in scope and some can be very small—even consisting of just a single AP. When the scope of the WLAN increases, the amount of documentation that is required usually increases along with it. Regardless of size, documentation is still needed. The size of your documentation and how it fits your project is also an important topic and one we’ll cover in this chapter.
