Microsoft SQL Server 2005 was developed with security in mind from the ground up. This is in line with Microsoft’s mantra of SD3 + C (Secure by Design, Secure by Default, and Secure in Deployment and Communications).
This brings two important concepts out: (1) You don’t have to worry about unneeded services being enabled by default; and (2) any needed services beyond the basics will need to be enabled. This allows SQL Server to run well after the initial installation.
