Certification Objective 3.01: Implementing DNS Services

Despite the easy-to-use DNS management console, implementing a DNS server is a lot more complicated than meets the eye. If we fail to plan, we plan to fail. Before the DNS console is even launched, you should carefully plan the namespace, how DNS will interact with DHCP and WINS, whether this machine should be a domain controller, and what the implications are of deploying Active Directory, if that is the long-term goal.

Among the most basic requirements for installing and configuring a DNS service on a server is a static IP address. If the server is dual- or multihomed, you will need to determine which interface(s) the service should be listening on.
