Chapter 15. Configuring Network Policy Server (NPS)

Chapter 15. Configuring Network Policy Server (NPS)

This chapter covers the following subjects:

Wireless Networking Protocols and Standards: In this section, you learn about the wireless networking protocols and standards used by Windows Server 2008. You also learn how to configure wired and wireless remote access policies for clients connecting to your network.

RADIUS in Windows Server 2008 R2: This section shows you how to configure RADIUS servers, clients, and proxies on a Windows Server 2008 R2 computer. You learn about connection request policies, RADIUS accounting, and templates that you can use to ease the configuration burden with these servers.

Chapter 14, “Configuring Remote Access,” introduced you to the technologies and methodologies of connecting remotely to your network by means of dial-up and virtual private network (VPN) connection types. With either type of remote connection, you have the option of centralizing authentication of Remote Access Service (RAS) users by means of a specialized technology known as Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS). Formerly known in Windows Server 2003 as Internet Authentication Service (IAS), Windows Server 2008 provides for Network Policy Server (NPS), which is Microsoft’s implementation of the RADIUS technology. This chapter introduces you to the use and configuration of NPS as a RAS network authentication service.
