Chapter 17. Replication

The primary purpose of replication is to distribute data from a master database to one or more secondary databases. Because replication maintains a duplicate copy of data in synchronization with the master copy, the technology can be used to provide availability for applications.

This chapter provides a basic overview of the replication engine, along with the variety of options that you can use to distribute data. It also explains how you can use the data distribution mechanisms to provide an extremely low-latency availability solution that also has the capability to minimize downtime in the event a failback is necessary.
