Chapter 8. Policies and Public Folders

Chapter 8. Policies and Public Folders

Polices are used to ensure that a particular aspect of Exchange configuration conforms to a specific set of standards. Policies can be used to ensure that all Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) addresses share a standard format. Policies can also be used to ensure that all mobile devices require a password to be reentered after they have not been used for a certain amount of time. Multiple policies can be applied so that the configuration settings that apply to one group are quite different to those applied to another. This chapter examines how you can apply certain types of policies using Exchange Server 2007 to meet the requirements of all parts of your organization.

As you learned in Chapter 4, the traditional functionality serviced by Exchange public folders is now better addressed through products such as SharePoint, which is included as an add-on component with Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows Server 2008. Although many organizations have already made the transition to the new technology, there are still several important public folder management tools that you need to be aware of to successfully pass the 70-236 exam. These are covered in the second part of the chapter.
