Chapter 9. Active Directory Certificate ... > Certificate Server Permissions

Certificate Server Permissions

The Security tab of the CA server’s Properties dialog box enables you to configure four permissions. Normally you do not need to modify these permissions, but you should be aware of their existence:

  • Read— Enables users to read records from the CA’s database. This permission is not required for users to obtain certificates; it is normally granted only to those who administer CA servers.

  • Issue and Manage Certificates— Enables users to approve requests for granting and revoking certificates. Users granted this permission receive the Certificate Manager role.

  • Manage CA— Enables users to configure and maintain the CA. Users granted this permission receive the PKI Administrator role.

  • Request Certificates— Enables users to request certificates. This is the only permission required for users to request certificates. It is granted to the Authenticated Users group by default.
