DNS Manager includes a testing capability that enables you to perform test queries that verify the proper installation and operation of the DNS server. In the console tree of the DNS snap-in, right-click the DNS server name and choose Properties to open the server’s Properties page. Shown in Figure 2.17, the Monitoring tab enables you to perform two types of test queries:
Simple query— The DNS client software performs a local query to a zone stored in the DNS server (including Active Directory–integrated zones).
Recursive query— A recursive query is forwarded to another DNS server for resolution.
