Chapter 2: Creating the Project Charter > Identifying Stakeholders

Identifying Stakeholders

Think of stakeholders and project participants as a highly polished orchestra. Each participant has a part to play. Some play more parts than others, and, alas, some don’t play their parts as well as others. An integral part of project management is getting to know your stakeholders and the parts they play. You’ll remember from Chapter 1 that stakeholders are those people or organizations who have a vested interest in the outcome of the project. They have something to either gain or lose as a result of the project, and they have the ability to influence project results.

Identifying Stakeholders Inputs

The Identify Stakeholders process involves identifying and documenting all the stakeholders on the project, including their interests and potential positive or negative impacts on the project.
