Understanding Project Selection

The underlying motivation behind project selection is the business strategy of the organization. That said, a project can be selected by using one or more project selection methods that fall into three categories: benefit measurement methods, constrained optimization methods, and expert judgment.

Note

Some of the concepts introduced in this section are not part of the PMBOK Guide, Fourth Edition. However, as a project manager, it’s useful to know them, and it’s indirectly useful to know them for the exam.
