U–V

uninterruptible power supply (UPS)

A power supply that sits between the wall power and the computer. In the event of power failure at the wall, the UPS takes over and powers the computer so that you can take action before data loss occurs.

Universal Resource Locator (URL)

A character string representing an Internet location and the protocol required for accessing resources at that address. A browser address of “HTTP://example.com” establishes a connection to the example.com address using the Hypertext Transport Protocol (HTTP), whereas “FTP://example.com” connects to the same address using the File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

User Acceptance Testing (UAT)

One of the final phases in the SDLC, user acceptance testing provides validation that software meets the scope mandates to the user’s satisfaction.
