Australian Standard

Because the bulk of Australia’s border (coastline) except the south is threatened by devastating cyclones, Australia has been in the forefront to modernize wind load provisions of building codes and to specify wind-resistant housing construction—the deemed-to-comply provisions.

The Australian standard for wind load is issued by the Standard Association of Australia (SAA). The first major revision (modernization) comparable to ANSI-72 took place in 1971. This Australian standard, together with later minor revisions, form the basis of the following discussion.
