Of the many disciplines that have influenced the development of coaching, aside from humanistic psychology, the teachings found in est and later Landmark Education (see www.landmarkeducation.com) may be the most influential. These programs are based on the premise that transforming one’s life is possible and that what is crucial to this transformation is to take responsibility for one’s life. Landmark Education purchased the est training from Werner Erhard, modified it, and currently conducts trainings throughout the world. In the Landmark Forum, the basic program is arranged as a discussion in which the course leader presents ideas and the participants voluntarily share with the leader and the group how the ideas presented apply to their lives.
