10. Evaluating Your Success > On to the Next Presentation!

ON TO THE NEXT PRESENTATION!

The more you do presentations, the better at it you become. Remember, this is a learning continuum—and you learn as you go. You’ll have wonderful successes and you’ll have some duds, this is the way it goes. As hard as it may be at times, look for the lessons buried in the duds. Harsh criticisms hurt, but sometimes they result in remarkable breakthroughs to the next level. And positive support goes even further, inspiring confidence and even enjoyment as you do more presentations.

If you’re going to be doing more presentations—and why wouldn’t you, now that you’re getting good at it?—then it’s worth your time and effort to improve your public speaking and presentation skills. The Internet is a vast resource for information and tips as well as articles, books, and specific topics. Many communities have chapters of Toastmasters International, a membership organization dedicated public speaking. Your community may have other organizations that focus on or emphasize public speaking and related subjects. And consider a return to the classroom—colleges and universities have courses on communication, public speaking, presentation design, psychology, and other topics that can help you hone your skills.
