Chapter 16. Introducing Discoverer OLAP

In this chapter we will introduce you to one of Discoverer’s greatest new features, Discoverer OLAP. This chapter is intended as a taste to show you how Discoverer OLAP can be used as a part of your reporting solution. The range and depth of what Discoverer OLAP offers would require far more than we can put into this book, but we want you, the Discoverer user, to see it in action. Without at least one chapter dedicated to this tremendously powerful and versatile tool, we feel that our work would not be complete.

While we, unfortunately, have not had a lot of time to see Discoverer OLAP in action in a real-world setting, we are very excited by the possibilities that this new addition to the Discoverer family brings to the table. Discoverer OLAP can answer queries that can simply be impossible to create with a relational model. Coupled with the latest OLAP performance improvements in the 10.2 database, performance is an order of magnitude better than earlier versions. In this environment it runs very well indeed, and if you get a chance to try it out we are sure that you will be as impressed as we are.
