Chapter 20. Configuring Discoverer > Single Sign-On (SSO)

Single Sign-On (SSO)

SSO provides a great deal of flexibility and allows for easier integration with Discoverer and Oracle Portal. You must decide whether using SSO with Discoverer is cost-effective. Deciding on whether or not your organization is interested in investing in an Identity Management server is another discussion. If you already have implemented OID and SSO for other Oracle products, like Portal, then this discussion is for you.

SSO is installed with the Application Server’s infrastructure install type. It allows a user to employ a single login and password for all web applications (Oracle and otherwise) in your organization. Thus, for example, when a user enters http://ascserver/learndiscoverer.com:7778/discoverer/plus, the Oracle HTTP server’s mod_osso module identifies that the /Discoverer/plus/ is protected and redirects the user to the SSO login page, as seen in Figure 20-12, that is served from the infrastructure’s HTTP server.
