Scheduling workbooks is a way to run a report at a set time. These reports will probably not be the ones you use on a daily basis for analysis purposes. Scheduled reports are the ones that you want, for example, to run daily, weekly, or monthly. Good candidates for scheduled reports might be monthly profits or weekly sales.
Another reason to schedule a report is time. Some queries are complex and take a long time to run. A query of this type may take so long to run, in fact, that the time it takes exceeds the time that your Discoverer manager has allotted for you to run queries. Scheduling a workbook of this nature allows the query to run in the background during “off-peak” hours, when you are not under the same exacting time constraints. If you are using Desktop, another advantage to scheduling is that the scheduled workbook runs on the server. You don’t even need to leave your PC on.
