Journaling

As mentioned at the beginning of this chapter, when tables are created within a given schema, they will automatically be journaled to QSQJRN. QSQJRN is a journal object that is automatically created within each schema. It acts as a funnel that directs the log entries of all database changes to a specific receiver. The initial receiver built within the schema is QSQJRN0001. Think of the receiver as a bucket that catches all the journal entries coming from the journal. By default, the system automatically replaces the current receiver with a new empty one each time the schema is saved.

Journaling allows for the implementation of certain features of the database, such as the constraints mentioned earlier. Journal entries can also be reviewed for auditing purposes, security planning, and debugging an application.
