Configuring Report Server Security Policies

Before a user can access content on the report server, Reporting Services uses authentication to confirm the user’s identity through the use of a login name and password. In this chapter, you use the default authentication method, Windows integrated security. This authentication method requires you to create a Microsoft Windows account for each user who will access the report server. If you want, you can organize these user accounts into Windows groups.

Tip

Reporting Services also supports basic authentication in native mode and custom forms authentication in both native mode and SharePoint integrated mode. To learn more about implementing alternate authentication methods, refer to “Security and Protection (Reporting Services)” in SQL Server Books Online.
