About the Authors

Werner De Gruyter started his career with Oracle in Belgium, in the support organization back in 1996, right around the time Enterprise Manager 1.0 was released. After four years there, Werner moved to the United States in 2000, where he joined the System Management Products development organization, with the mission to help development eliminate the barriers to adoption for Enterprise Manager, based on the feedback provided by customers. In that time, he’s seen the whole metamorphosis from Enterprise Manager (the JAVA/C++–based product) to Grid Control (the web-based product).

He has worked with every version of Enterprise Manager and Grid Control, and helped diagnose and troubleshoot issues raised by customers on all these releases.

Matthew Hart is the coauthor of five other Oracle books, including the upcoming Oracle Database 11g RMAN Backup and Recovery from Oracle Press. He has been working with High Availability technologies in Oracle since version 7.3, and database management technologies for most of that period. He currently works and lives in Kansas City, or at least at its airport anyway.

Daniel Nguyen holds an engineering degree from the University of Colorado and has over ten years of experience in the software industry. He has a deep-seated interest in technologies that change the space in which they compete. While employed at Oracle, Daniel took great strides to become principal across the technology stack where he addressed bugs, diagnostics, and escalations for Oracle Support Services. Daniel recently transitioned into the communications space where he has been gainfully employed by Avaya, a leading provider of communication technology, and serves as a transformation lead for various serviceability initiatives.
