The bigger the variation among sample group means relative to the variation of individual measurements within the groups, the greater the evidence that the hypothesis of equal group means is untrue. This concept is illustrated in Appendix C (Section C.1), which discusses some basic concepts of ANOVA. In clinical trials, this ANOVA method might be appropriate for comparing mean
