7.2 Synopsis

In general, the randomized block design has g (g ≥ 2) levels of a 'group' factor and b (b ≥ 2) levels of a 'block' factor. An independent sample of measurements is taken from each of the g × b cells formed by the group-block combinations. Let nij represent the number of measurements taken in Group i and Block j (Cell i−j), and let N represent the number of measurements over all g × b cells. Letting yijk denote the kth response in Cell i−j (k = 1, 2, ..., nij), the general layout of the randomized block design is shown in Table 7.1.
