The Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) began in 1939 and was used by the U.S. Employment Service to match jobs and job seekers. It has a strong basis toward the textile industry at first but grew more general over the years. Unfortunately, it did not keep up with the changing labor market, and the fourth and last edition was published in 1991.
The Web site http://www.occupationalinfo.org/ has an online look-up of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) revised fourth edition, as supplied electronically by the U.S. Department of Labor.
