Future Phones

The wireless Internet industry is unsure about what type of devices people will want, or more accurately, what they can persuade consumers to buy. The consensus is around smartphones, but this is a nebulous term and nobody is quite sure what it means. Should handsets be more "smart" or more "phone?" Would customers prefer something as easy to carry as a pen, or a real keyboard on which they can type?

The answer is probably both, but even this leads to further questions. There are two competing philosophies about the future of mobile devices.
