Chapter 8. Security Filtering > Recommended Anti-Spam Settings

Recommended Anti-Spam Settings

If you’ve run the ESA SSW and turned IPAS on, the default settings closely match the recommendations I would make for you in a new Cisco email security deployment. The spam capture rate is high, with a focus on keeping false positive rates low.

If you are transitioning to the Cisco Email Security technology from another product, you may want to create a policy that closely matches your current environment. IPAS has settings and options that are analogous to those in other products and services. Because of the very high accuracy of IPAS, you may be able to get more aggressive with spam filtering than you are with other products.

Spam Thresholds

The default spam thresholds classify scores of 90–100 as positive spam and 50–90 as suspected spam. These are good settings, if a bit conservative. They focus on providing good capture rates but maintaining a low false positive rate.
