When disconnected mailboxes do not appear properly, you can use the Clean-MailboxDatabase cmdlet to update the information between Exchange Server and the Active Directory. Disconnected mailboxes typically occur when the Active Directory user account is deleted, thus orphaning the mailbox. The mailbox is preserved for 30 days by default and is moved to the Disconnected Mailboxes node of Exchange Management Console.
The following table shows how to run the Clean-Mailbox cmdlet, which scans the Active Directory for mailboxes that are disconnected from user accounts but do not yet appear as disconnected in EMC or EMS.
