This is the second edition of my first book and, to start with, I wasn't actually planning to write one at all. I tried to write a book on Exchange Server Disaster Recovery in the past, but Exchange Server changes so significantly with each Service Pack that I ended up rewriting quite a lot of my material every six months. After realizing this was a never-ending story, I made a tactical decision to quit while I was ahead...

...until early 2009, when Michael Francis asked me if I'd ever considered writing a book. He persuaded me to try again, and I'm really thankful to him. Also, to Michael B. Smith as my Technical Reviewer, Steven van Houttum as a local Dutch peer, everybody from the Red Gate team, and the people from the Exchange Server MVP Group - you were all very helpful. Thank you all.

I guess my wife and sons suffered the most when I was behind my laptop, writing again, and trying to figure out what was going wrong this time. The legacy of beta software, I'm afraid. And when things got really annoying, I went out hiking or cycling to clear my mind. Oh boy, isn't it lovely to write a book? :-)

And to anybody else, especially in my local community (who really don't know anything about Exchange Server, but know a lot about potatoes, onions, cows and stuff), this is my book. And I have to be honest, it's not about "love at first sight" as I've said for such a long time. Maybe one day I'll write a novel, but right now I stick to technical books. I hope you like it, and I'd love to know what you think of it. Feel free to send me a note at:
