536 The AMA Handbook of Business Writing PROGRESS REPORTS Progress reports are written to inform a supervisor about the status of a project. These reports detail what was completed for the previous period, what percentage of the work has been completed, and what is planned for the next period. Any problems or issues are listed in the report. Progress reports let management know about the overall health of a project and its team members. Progress reports also let everyone on the team know how the overall project is going. These reports range from simple memos for small projects, to informal let- ters, to formal reports. Memos are often used for internal progress reports. Progress report letters are sent to outside clients. Formal progress reports are also sent to outside clients.
