Including Author and Source Information

It’s a good practice to include information about the author and address of the web page where users can find your KML files. Including this information in the KML file itself ensures that proper attribution for the file will be maintained even if the KML file or archive is distributed on its own. This information is displayed in geo search results, both in Earth browsers such as Google Earth and in other applications such as Google Maps.

Google Earth uses the author, name, and link elements exactly as they are defined in the Atom Syndication Format. The complete specification is found at http://atompub.org. Here is an example of using these attribution elements in a KML file:
