The Future of Publishing

One of the basic elements of democracy has long been “freedom of the press,” but freedom of the press has always been reserved for those who own one. Now for the first time in history, almost anyone can publish his or her own work on the Internet and the World Wide Web. And because QuarkXPress has been the tool of choice for most publishing professionals, it makes sense that people would look to this program to take them into the brave new world.

In this chapter, I’ve briefly summarized the various tools that ease the transition from print to screen. Of course, the future of publishing depends less on which tools you use than on what you create. Happy XPressing!
